If you were excited about the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which is currently in development by Hardsuit Labs and Paradox Interactive, with a scheduled release date of the first quarter of 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and on PC for Steam, GOG.com, the Paradox Store, and the Epic Games Store, you might want to bottle up that excitement, put in a jar, slap it on a shelf, close the cupboard, and lock it up tight because there’s a huge sociopolitical uphill climb to get over before you can safely say that the game will actually be worth playing.

So first and foremost, various woke gaming outlets managed to get some exclusive scoops on the game during the announcement, which should definitely let you know where the developers’ favoritism lies. One such outlet is the anti–gamer, anti-#GamerGate, pro-censorship, pro-propaganda gaming news site, VG 24/7.

In their piece they revealed that the character creation has a pronoun selector, which is only ever popular with SJW game developers, like with Harebrained Schemes’ Battletech, which went out of its way to prevent players from making white characters. VG 24/7 explains…

Most Centrists™ would ignore this, because it’s something they’ve been programmed to do by Liberal media. Everyone else with common sense will have their red flags raised.

However, it gets worse. As explained in the VG 24/7 piece, the game will be themed around modern day Seattle politics, with creative director Martin Ka’ai Cluney explaining…

Now if the pronouns wasn’t much of a giveaway and the politics issue didn’t seem to sway you, maybe learning that the game was designed to subvert masculinity is enough to wake you up?

In an article published over on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, it was revealed that the game will retain its sexiness, but more-so oriented away from a masculine power-fantasy. Senior writer Cara Ellison – someone who has a long and storied, overlapping history with the anti-#GamerGate side and the person responsible for Hotline Miami 2 cutting the rape scene, which effectively got it banned in Australia – both explained and was paraphrased by Rock, Paper, Shotgun, to outline the game’s sociopolitical approach to gender representation…

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/399100804?t=05h05m18s

If you’re unable to watch the clip, Ellison states…

Now some people might use the excuse “Who cares, Vampire: The Masqueradehas always been about politics!” and that’s true. However, most people were engulfed in the game’s in-lore politics, not the real-world politics pulled out of today’s headlines. Just like, the original Blade movie was steeped in politics… but it was in-lore, vampire politics, not entirely related to the micro-politics of inter-societal squabbles and subcultural dissension.

Nevertheless, if subverting the “masculine power fantasy” wasn’t enough, and if adding pronouns wasn’t enough, and if a typically SJW-aligned former game journalists who worked at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, who is now working as a senior writer on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 wasn’t enough, I don’t really know what else to tell you… other than that they’ve mentioned that they may be pulling from the 5th edition of the Vampire: The Masquerade book, which features a member of the Vignettes named Rudi that didn’t go over too well with some gamers.

The review on Strange Assembly didn’t really bring up much about Rudi, but over on the Steam forums they linked to a description of Rudi, who is a gay, black, Muslim who fights against misogynists on behalf of oppressed minorities. It’s not a joke. You can read his description page yourself.

Whether or not Rudi will appear in the game is another story, but this was part of the modern day politics that turned off a lot of gamers.

Actually, the 5th edition of the Vampire: The Masquerade game book caused even more controversy than just having a gay, black, Muslim when it tried to portray a real life politician, the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, as a bigoted mass murderer who captured, killed, and fed gay people to vampires. Kadyrov’s spokesperson condemned the developers and the game, prompting for Paradox to completely overhaul the White Wolf brand.

The Steam forums have also been on fire about all the talk about politics and pronouns and the general theme of Social Justice.

There is, however, one small caveat that might help save this game: Chris Avellone.

The long-time industry veteran confirmed via Twitter that he did work on the game, but in what capacity we don’t actually know. So it could be something as simple as a few lines of dialogue or as expansive as an entire DLC. However, his influence was understated — nay, not even mentioned during the livestream, which likely means he didn’t have as much input or say as the team members who were heading up the game’s Q&A during the announcement.

Of course, there’s really no telling whether he did the influencing or was influenced during the development of the game.

And as usual, there will be a lot of people pushing back against this article and this kind of news in order to keep people blinded to Leftist propaganda, which has basically been the status quo for the last seven years.

Now in the case of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, it’s not a matter of whether or not Leftists are working on it (they are), or whether or not it will have influence of the Liberal progressive agenda (it does), or whether or not it will contain modern day politics (it will), it’s all a matter of degrees.

For the most part, people who are tired of all of the sociopolitical agitprop from the Left, they will likely “Nope!” out right now. For most people who don’t mind subversion and propaganda even though they don’t like it, they will probably still give the game a try. And for people who want to see more of the Liberal SJW agenda encroaching on the gaming industry, they will probably celebrate this news and will likely be excited about the scope of politics that will be present in the game.

ICE, игра ещё не вышла, а отрываться на всю катушку можно уже сейчас. Блин, они даже Рамзана не забыли позвать на вечеринку, вангую появление SJW-friendly Velvet, с сотней лишних фунтов и членом.

    A Message From White Wolf
    Hello everyone,

My name is Shams Jorjani, VP of Business Development at Paradox Interactive and interim manager at White Wolf Publishing. I wanted to inform you of some changes that will be implemented at White Wolf, starting immediately.

Sales and printing of the V5 Camarilla and Anarch books will be temporarily suspended. The section on Chechnya will be removed in both the print and PDF versions of the Camarilla book. We anticipate that this will require about three weeks. This means shipping will be delayed; if you have pre-ordered a copy of Camarilla or Anarchs, further information will follow via e-mail.

In practical terms, White Wolf will no longer function as a separate entity. The White Wolf team will be restructured and integrated directly into Paradox Interactive, and I will be temporarily managing things during this process. We are recruiting new leadership to guide White Wolf both creatively and commercially into the future, a process that has been ongoing since September.

Going forward, White Wolf will focus on brand management. This means White Wolf will develop the guiding principles for its vision of the World of Darkness, and give licensees the tools they need to create new, excellent products in this story world. White Wolf will no longer develop and publish these products internally. This has always been the intended goal for White Wolf as a company, and it is now time to enact it.

The World of Darkness has always been about horror, and horror is about exploring the darkest parts of our society, our culture, and ourselves. Horror should not be afraid to explore difficult or sensitive topics, but it should never do so without understanding who those topics are about and what it means to them. Real evil does exist in the world, and we can’t ever excuse its real perpetrators or cheapen the suffering of its real victims.

In the Chechnya chapter of the V5 Camarilla book, we lost sight of this. The result was a chapter that dealt with a real-world, ongoing tragedy in a crude and disrespectful way. We should have identified this either during the creative process or in editing. This did not happen, and for this we apologize.

We ask for your patience while we implement these changes.
Paradox taking control of White Wolf after Vampire: The Masquerade LGBTQ+ controversy
Tabletop dev will “no longer function as a separate entity” after “crude and disrespectful” use of Chechnya's anti-gay purges

Paradox Interactive has stepped in to assert control of White Wolf Publishing, the developer behind tabletop RPGs such as Vampire: The Masquerade.

The incident follows passages in an upcoming handbook that alludes to real-world suffering of LGBTQ+ people in the Chechen Republic, Russia.

A post by Paradox's VP of business development Shams Jorjani on the White Wolf announced he was taking over as interim manager. The White Wolf team is being "restructured and integrated directly" into Paradox.

White Wolf's future lies in brand management, overseeing the creative vision for the World of Darkness (which encompasses Vampire: The Masquerade) and helping licensees develop new products in this setting.

"White Wolf will not longer develop and publish these products internally," Jorjani wrote. "This has always been the intended goal for White Wolf as a company, and it is now time to enact it."

Jorjani also points out efforts to recruit new leadership to take over White Wolf have been ongoing since September.

However, this intention to integrate White Wolf has no doubt been accelerated by recent controversy over the V5 Camarilla handbook for Vampire: The Masquerade. According to our sister site Rock Paper Shotgun, a chapter about a vampire-run Chechnya referred to the persecution of LGBTQ+ people as "a clever media manipulation."

"While homosexuals are indeed held in detention facilities for days, and humiliated, starved, tortured, and eventually fed upon and killed, this is not the point. The point is to distract from the truth of what Chechnya has become."

Paradox slammed this as "crude and disrespectful" given the widespread media reports of anti-gay purges in the region last year.

"The World of Darkness has always been about horror, and horror is about exploring the darkest parts of our society, our culture, and ourselves. Horror should not be afraid to explore difficult or sensitive topics, but it should never do so without understanding who those topics are about and what it means to them.

"Real evil does exist in the world, and we can't ever excuse its real perpetrators or cheapen the suffering of its real victims."

Paradox has apologised for not identifying this earlier, and has taken steps to ensure the handbook does not continue to spread. Sales and printing for this product has temporarily been suspended until the offending passage has been removed, and the digital version will also be updated.

Paradox acquired White Wolf back in 2015. While these events centre around a tabletop RPG, the games publisher's reaction shows the firm stance it takes on such a serious topic.

White Wolf hands over Vampire tabletop RPG to new leadership
Modiphius Entertainment will guide the franchise while Paradox Interactive will have final approval on direction

White Wolf, the company which created the Vampire: The Masquerade role-playing franchise, is handing content creation over to an outside company. The transition follows a series of unforced errors that led to accusations of homophobia and neo-Nazi sympathies among the role-playing game’s core development team, which was purchased by Paradox Interactive in 2015.

“White Wolf is moving away from internal development and publishing,” wrote Paradox’s vice president of business development, Shams Jorjani in a statement. “This is part of that process.”

Modiphius Entertainment previously handled pre-orders and distribution of physical products for Vampire’s latest edition, which was released in August. The game developer and publisher already has a wide portfolio, which includes Tales From The Loop, an RPG based on Star Trek, and a Fallout-themed miniatures game.

The tumult at White Wolf began last year when an early beta version of Vampire’s fifth edition tabletop RPG was released to eager fans. In addition one of its non-player characters appearing to be a pedophile, it also included what many read as coded references to neo-Nazi symbology. Later, on the eve of the new edition’s release at the Gen Con tabletop gaming convention, White Wolf was forced to make a video statement condemning Nazism in all its forms.

Later, Polygon played an early version of the game with one of its creators. Our early impressions were clouded by themes of sexual assault, while the product itself contained no clear guidance for players or game masters (called Storytellers in the system) to mitigate traumas at the table. When the book was finally handed over to consumers, both physical and digital copies were amended with an elaborate content warning and a chapter on enhanced safety strategies.

As if that weren’t enough, later sourcebooks spawned an entirely new controversy. From our November article:

Unfortunately, those books made reference to the murder of gay Chechens in a context that used the ongoing human right violations in that country as fodder for their in-fiction narrative.

“In the Chechnya chapter of the V5 Camarilla book, we lost sight of this,” wrote Paradox’s vice president of business development, Shams Jorjani in a statement. “The result was a chapter that dealt with a real-world, ongoing tragedy in a crude and disrespectful way. We should have identified this either during the creative process or in editing. This did not happen, and for this we apologize.”

Jorjani said that the offensive content will be removed, pre-orders will be fulfilled, and then the products in question will no longer be sold.

“The creation and sale of these books would not happen under the incarnation of White Wolf that we are building,” Jorjani said. “The creation, production, and editorial oversight of such products is now entirely run by Modiphius Entertainment and their partners.”

Jorjani ended on a hopeful note for the classic role-playing franchise.

“I see White Wolf in the future as a company that will continue steering the World of Darkness,” Jorjani said, referring to the larger role-playing universe of which Vampire is merely a part, “but with strong editorial leadership, and more guidance and input from a broader set of voices. There needs to be new leadership for this new direction, and we believe Modiphius will be an integral part of this process with regards to Vampire, but there are more steps still to be taken for the World of Darkness and White Wolf as a whole.”
